Lonni

Lonni is an oil portrait by Nelson Shanks, probably America's best classical portraitist. I've had repainting this on my list for a long time. Originally I planned to do it in oil, but decided to do it in Studio Paint to see if I could learn to do better detailing in a digital painting. The original reason to copy this painting is Nelson's great use of both warm and cool colors in skin tones. He uses a lot of color, but it still looks realistic. As I started painting it digitally, I realized that I had to get less soft and blurry than I have been painting, which was similar to my pastel paintings. Very interesting experiment. I learned a lot about skin color and learned to use more Clip Studio tools.
